Dope

Life changes for Malcolm, a geek who's surviving life in a tough neighborhood, after a chance invitation to an underground party leads him and his friends into a Los Angeles adventure.A coming of age comedy/drama for the post hip hop generation. Malcolm is a geek, carefully surviving life in The Bottoms, a tough neighborhood in Inglewood, CA filled gangsters and drugs dealers, while juggling his senior year of college applications, interviews and the SAT. His dream is to attend Harvard. A chance invitation to a big underground party leads Malcolm and his friends into a, only in Los Angeles, gritty adventure filed with offbeat characters and bad choices. If Malcolm can persevere, he'll go from being a geek, to being dope, to ultimately being himself.
Containing some of the biggest artists making appearance's in this movie which I felt added charecter and depth the story a little more. Rakim Mayers aka A$ap Rocky charecter Dom suits him perfectly. Dope is a high-school comedy written with wit, brio and the unexpected twist of a geeky hero who wants to go to Harvard, but finds himself in the drug-dealing snakepit of Inglewood, Los Angeles, known as “The Bottoms” for good reason.
All the clichés of the African-American 'hood movie are turned on their head in this joyously fast-paced crime caper, in which three friends from the mostly black area of Inglewood, Los Angeles, horrify their posturing peers with their squeaky-clean behaviour and such nerdy interests as BMX biking and collecting cheesy, old-school hip-hop - preferably on vinyl. The two clans connect at a birthday party for drug dealer Dom (rapper A$ap Rocky), where bright student Malcolm (Shameik Moore) is unwittingly saddled with a stash of top-grade narcotics after an attack by rival gang members. Now in fear for his life, Malcolm and his two quick-witted cohorts Jib (The Grand Budapest Hotel'sTony Revolori) and Diggy (Kiersey Clemons) must negotiate between the gangsters trying to steal the drugs and the mystery Mr Big who wants them back. The stakes are high, but Dope is far from grim: it's a fast, funky and good-hearted take on the urban heist movie.
