On this day. What happened?

I thought I would introduce a new segment called on this day.

We'll look at things that took place on this date in an alternative year, it could be hard hitting stories or even smash hit movies. Either way I felt it would be a great way to get people to know about history in a pretty fun and yet relaxing way.

Lets kick things off to 1967

WSBE TV channel 36 in Providence, RI (PBS) begins broadcasting. It's crazy to even think that a Television Network would had been still active for 50 years and still continuing on that's impressive.

A Brief talk on history WSBE-TV's license was originally held by the Rhode Island State Board of Education (from which the call letters are derived). In 1981, what had become the Board of Regents for Education transferred the station to the Rhode Island Public Telecommunications Authority, a quasi-state agency.[1] The Channel 36 Foundation was founded in 1987[2] as an independent fundraising arm of WSBE; it subsequently became the Rhode Island PBS Foundation following the station's 2003 re-branding

In 1956 on this day

"Milton Berle Show" last airs on NBC-TV Milton Berle (born Mendel Berlinger; July 12, 1908 – March 27, 2002) was an American comedian and actor. Berle’s career as an entertainer spanned over 80 years, first in silent films and on stage as a child actor, then in radio, movies and television. As the host of NBC's Texaco Star Theater (1948–55), he was the first major American television star and was known to millions of viewers as "Uncle Miltie" and "Mr. Television" during TV's golden age. Milton died in 2002 at the age of 93

The reason I put this man on the list was because It's funny isn't if it wasn't for guys like Milton we wouldn't have hit chat show hosts we do have now. I mean he paved the way for new people. I wasn't born when the show was aired originally, fortunately for me I was born in a family that idolised comedy and idolised that star like shows. I will advise individuals to check him out on Youtube.

in 1954 on this day

"Your show of Shows" last airs on NBC-TV Your Show of Shows was a live 90-minute variety show that was broadcast weekly in the United States on NBC from February 25, 1950, through June 5, 1954, featuring Sid Caesar and Imogene Coca. Other featured performers were Carl Reiner, Howard Morris, Bill Hayes, Judy Johnson, The Hamilton Trio and the soprano Marguerite Piazza. José Ferrer made several guest appearances on the series.

In 2002, Your Show of Shows was ranked #30 on TV Guide's 50 Greatest TV Shows of All Time. In 2013, it was ranked #37 on TV Guide's 60 Best Series of All Time. Writers for the series included Mel Brooks, Neil Simon, Danny Simon, Mel Tolkin, Lucille Kallen, Selma Diamond, Joseph Stein, Michael Stewart, Tony Webster (the only Gentile among the show's writers), and Carl Reiner who, though a cast member, also worked with the writers. (Larry Gelbart and Woody Allen joined the writing staff for later Caesar ventures.)

Because of the star studded writing team that went into putting of breathtaking shows it's now wonder why its considered as a cult classic. It was the show that opened
the doors for shows such as Saturday Night Live, America's Got Talent/Britain's Got Talent and of course many many more.

in 1961 on this day

Roy Orbison went to No.1 on the US chart with 'Running Scared', it made No.9 in the UK. The B-side 'Love Hurts' also picked up significant airplay, making Orbison's recording the first version to be a hit.

For those that aren't familiar with this cult classic I've provided you the lyrics because I'm that much of a nice guy.

 Just runnin' scared
Each place we go
So afraid
That he might show
Yeah, runnin' scared
What would I do
If he came back
And wanted you?

Just runnin' scared
Feelin' low
Runnin' scared
You love him so
Just runnin' scared
Afraid to lose
If he came back
Which one would you choose?

Then all at once he was standing there
So sure of himself, his head in the air
My heart was breaking, which one would it be?
You turned around and walked away with me

It's crazy to imagine that Roy Orbison who is arguably one of the most successful men within the Music industry, I mean I have never known him never to have had his music in the charts. But it's crazy to even begin to imagine that he couldn't even get a hit. You got to take in consideration you didn't have Youtube or Itunes then. So you had to depend
on radio plays to play your music if it wasn't played then sadly your song wasn't going to do greatly.

In 1971 on this day

Paul McCartney's second solo album 'Ram' started a two-week run at No.1 on the UK chart. Featuring the US No.1 single 'Uncle Albert / Admiral Halsey'.The song "Ram On", from the album's first side, was reprised on the second side, before the album's final track "The Back Seat of My Car" "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey" is in a similar vein to the Abbey Road medley, as the song consisted of several unfinished songs combined into one  Music videos were made for "3 Legs" and "Heart of the Country", from footage that was filmed on 2 January 1971, and edited together 5 months later, by Ray Benson.

For me, this album’s most intriguing moment remains “The Back Seat of My Car,” the soaringly constructed, yet desperately sad closing track on Ram.

In keeping with the rest of the project, the song is a little unfocused — too overstuffed with ideas, too reliant on multi-tracked McCartneys, not as rustic as his solo debut and somehow tossed-off sounding anyway, simply too long — but yet still perfectly encapsulates everything that makes Ram such a wildly inventive gem: It’s gutsy and unprecious at one point and then a testament to Paul McCartney’s enduring pop sensibilities at others. As McCartney bolts from 1950s-era rock to cocktail-lounge crooning to swooning violins, and back again — all inside of this one final track, mind you — there is a sense of limitless possibility.
